Located in a charming building at the Oudegracht in the very heart of Utrecht, this is an inspirational venue for meetings, seminars and dinners.
The AAMU, the only museum in Europe that exhibits contemporary Aboriginal art, is also an inspirational venue for meetings, seminars, lectures, receptions and dinners. We compile extensive programmes, which may include a guided tour in Dutch or English. Visitors are welcome during and outside of opening hours, during which the entire museum is exclusively at their disposal. In addition to these facilities, the AAMU has a museum shop with wonderful art books and Australian products, and a museum gallery with a superb selection of certified Aboriginal art. The building is wheelchair-accessible.
Adjacent to the museum café and sun lounge is the auditorium, a multi-functional hall for approximately 70 people with presentation equipment. In summer, enjoy the sun and the view of the Dom tower from the outdoor café, the floor motif of which was designed by the Aboriginal artist Helicopter.
Guided tours in Dutch or English take about an hour. In consultation, the museum can be visited with other groups.
One of the most typical and fascinating musical instruments from the Aboriginal culture is, of course, the didgeridoo. If you would like to learn more about this instrument, be sure to take a workshop in the AAMU, during which the basic techniques, basic tomes and circular breathing are covered. Become familiar with various sounds and rhythms. A knowledge of music is not required.
